● AT A GLANCE

Van impound cover at a glance

What you get

  • 30-day third-party policy for vans up to 3.5 tonnes
  • CID code certificate emailed within minutes of payment
  • Transit, panel, commercial and specialist vans
  • All licence types: full UK, provisional, EU, international
  • IN10 convictions, driving bans, claims history and criminal convictions considered
  • Named driver option available, arranged by phone

What's not covered

  • Compound storage fees (charged daily by the pound)
  • Vehicle removal or recovery charges
  • Repairs, damage or mechanical faults
  • Tools, stock or goods inside the van
  • Comprehensive or collision cover: this is third-party only

Nothing inside the van is insured under this policy. If you carry stock or equipment for work, ask us about goods in transit cover once your van is back on the road.

Why your normal van insurance won't get it released

When police seize a van, usually under Section 165A of the Road Traffic Act 1988, the compound won't hand it back on a standard policy, because ordinary van insurance excludes impounded vehicles. What they need to see is a specialist 30-day policy carrying a CID (Confirmation of Insurance Document) code. That's exactly what we arrange, for any van up to 3.5 tonnes.

The deadline is real: you have 14 days from seizure to collect the van before it can legally be crushed or sold at auction. Storage fees of roughly £20–£26 a day run from the moment it arrives, on top of the release fee. For a working van, that's fees stacking up while your income has stopped, which is why we prioritise same-day certificates during opening hours.

Built for people whose van is their living

A seized car is an inconvenience. A seized van is missed jobs, cancelled appointments and lost income; couriers, tradespeople and delivery drivers feel it from day one. Our team treats van impound cases with that urgency: the policy covers commercial vans, transits, panel vans and specialist vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, whether you use the van for work or personally.

If your vehicle is over 3.5 tonnes, don't guess: call 01323 416706 and the team will advise on your options.

Convictions, non-UK licences, named drivers: all workable

We arrange van impound cover for every licence type: full UK, provisional, EU and international. IN10 convictions, driving bans, claims history and criminal convictions are all considered; that's the everyday work of the specialist insurers we place with, not an exception. And if you can't take the policy yourself, we can add a named driver to collect the van for you; that option is arranged by phone so we can verify the driver's details.

● YOUR VAN EARNS NOTHING IN THE POUND

Every day it sits there, you pay twice

Storage fees of around £26 a day start the moment your van arrives at the compound, while the work it should be doing goes to someone else. After 14 days it can be crushed or sold. The sooner you're insured, the less it costs.

  • Same-day CID certificates during opening hours
  • We confirm your compound's exact release requirements
  • Release checklist sent with every policy

See all FAQs
What types of van does impounded van insurance cover?

Vans up to 3.5 tonnes: commercial vans, transits, panel vans and specialist vehicles. Whether you use the van for courier work, trade, deliveries or personally, the 30-day impound policy covers it. Get a quote online or call 01323 416706.

Is van impound insurance more expensive than car impound cover?

It can be slightly higher, because premiums reflect the vehicle type, weight and value as well as your driving history. We work with specialist insurers to keep rates competitive. Send the form or call for a quick price on your van.

Can I get impound insurance for a commercial van?

Yes. Commercial vans up to 3.5 tonnes are covered, including vans used for courier work, trade, catering and refrigeration. The 30-day policy is third-party only and includes the CID code the compound needs for release.

What's the maximum weight you can cover?

3.5 tonnes, which covers the vast majority of commercial and personal vans on UK roads. If your vehicle is heavier than that, call 01323 416706 and the team will advise on your options.

Are the tools and stock inside my van covered?

No. This is a 30-day third-party release policy: it doesn't cover tools, stock, equipment or any goods inside the van. If you carry goods for work, speak to the team about a separate goods in transit policy once your van is released.

Can someone else collect the van for me?

Often, yes. We can add a named driver to your van impound policy, useful if you can't hold the policy or attend the compound yourself. Named driver policies are arranged by phone so we can verify the driver's details: call 01323 416706.
