If your old tractor still earns its keep on the farm, a classic policy isn't the right fit; our working tractor insurance is. We arrange both, so just describe how the machine is used.
Why market value shortchanges a restored tractor
Standard tractor insurance settles claims at market value, and market value has no idea what went into your machine. The years tracking down correct parts, the panels beaten out by hand, the engine rebuilt over a winter of evenings: none of that shows up in a book price. If a standard policy wrote off your restored Fordson tomorrow, the cheque would insult the work.
Agreed value cover fixes that. You and the insurer agree what the tractor is worth when the policy starts, and if it's written off or stolen, you receive that full agreed amount, not a depreciated market figure. For a restored, original or rare vintage tractor, it's the single most important feature of the policy.
Rallies, shows and the road between them
Classic tractors aren't kept to sit in a barn; they're driven at ploughing matches, shown at agricultural shows and paraded at heritage events. Our classic policies cover attendance at all of these, with road risk included for getting the tractor to and from events and between sites under its own power.
We cover all the classic makes and models: Massey Ferguson, John Deere, Ford, Fordson, David Brown, International Harvester, Case and the rest. Restored show-winners, unrestored originals and half-finished project machines are all insurable; a project tractor in pieces is still worth protecting against theft and fire.
What counts as classic, and how storage cuts the price
Most insurers treat a tractor as classic once it's 20 years old, and some policies will consider machines from 15 years. The dividing line that matters more is use: a classic policy is for tractors kept for enjoyment, shows and heritage work, not for machines doing commercial agricultural work. A tractor still working for a living needs a working tractor policy instead; we arrange those too.
Where you keep the tractor affects the premium. A locked barn, garage or secure compound can earn a secure storage discount, so tell us about your storage arrangements when you get a quote. It's one of the easier ways to bring the price down without thinning the cover.

See all FAQsWhat is classic tractor insurance?
A specialist policy for vintage agricultural vehicles, typically 20 years or older. It's built around agreed value cover, so the payout reflects the tractor's true worth, plus cover for rallies, shows and ploughing matches, and road risk between events. Call 01323 416706 for a quote.
What counts as a classic tractor?
Most insurers define a classic as 20 years or older, and some policies cover tractors from 15 years old. Restored, original and project vehicles all qualify. What matters as much as age is use: classic policies are for tractors kept for shows and enjoyment, not commercial farm work.
What is agreed value cover?
You and the insurer agree the tractor's worth when the policy starts. If it's written off or stolen, you receive that full agreed amount, not a depreciated market value that ignores the restoration work and rare parts you've put in.
Does it cover rallies, shows and ploughing matches?
Yes. Attendance at rallies, agricultural shows, ploughing matches and heritage events is covered, and road risk for travelling to and from events is included. Racing and competitive speed events are the exception: those aren't covered.
Can I get a discount for secure storage?
Yes. Keeping the tractor in a locked barn, garage or secure compound can reduce your premium. Tell us about your storage arrangements when you get a quote.
Which makes and models do you cover?
All of them: Massey Ferguson, John Deere, Ford, Fordson, David Brown, International Harvester, Case and more. Whether it's a pristine restoration or a project in pieces, tell us what you own and we'll find cover for it.
